Japan business mood improves, tankan survey shows
EWJ•Japan’s business confidence improved in the three months to September, with the big manufacturers’ index rising to +24 from +22 and the big non-manufacturers’ index at +35. Companies expect inflation of 2.6% in three years and 2.5% in five years.
1. Business sentiment improves
The Bank of Japan’s tankan survey showed the big manufacturers’ sentiment index rose to +24 in September from +22 in June, below the forecast of +25. The big non-manufacturers’ index was +35, down from +37 and below the forecast of +36.
2. Inflation expectations
Companies expect inflation to reach 2.6% in three years and 2.5% in five years, the survey showed. The data will be among factors considered in the BOJ’s growth and inflation forecasts due later this month.
