Japan's oil imports rise 13% in August as US supplies surge
EWJ•EWJ•EWJ•EWJ•Japan’s crude oil imports rose 13.1% year over year to 2.51 million barrels per day in August, as US shipments jumped more than 12-fold. Middle East imports fell 28.4%, while domestic oil product sales declined 3.2%.
Japan’s crude oil imports rose for a third consecutive month in August, reaching 2.51 million barrels per day, official data showed. Imports from the Middle East fell 28.4% year over year, while shipments from the United States surged more than 12-fold to about 844,685 barrels per day. The Middle East accounted for 60.7% of imports, compared with 33.7% for the United States and 34% for Saudi Arabia.
Japan’s domestic oil product sales fell 3.2% year over year to 2.19 million barrels per day. Gasoline sales decreased 3.7% to 813,639 barrels per day, and kerosene sales fell 16.9% to 53,542 barrels per day.
