Jensen Huang's invisible hand is tied on AI safety
NVDA•Nvidia unveiled tools to monitor and shut down AI agents that act outside their constraints. The company also increased its share-repurchase authorization by $150 billion, bringing it to $235 billion, with plans to complete buybacks by Jan. 31, 2028.
1. AI agent controls
Nvidia unveiled OpenShell, an open-source product that limits what AI agents can do and access, and Sentry, which monitors activity in OpenShell and can quickly shut down an agent that drifts from its task or constraints. Sentry runs on Nvidia Bluefield processing units; OpenShell works on hardware from Nvidia and other manufacturers.
2. Buyback authorization
Nvidia’s board authorized a $150 billion increase to its existing share-repurchase program, bringing it to $235 billion. The company plans to complete the buybacks by the end of its 2028 fiscal year on Jan. 31, 2028.
