Joby Aviation Acquires 700,000 Sq Ft Facility to Boost Production
Joby Aviation agreed to acquire a 700,000 sq ft Dayton facility to double output to four aircraft per month by 2027 and allow future expansion. The company plans passenger operations in 2026 after landmark Dubai flights and partnered with L3Harris for autonomous hybrid VTOL defense applications.
1. Facility Acquisition
Joby Aviation has agreed to acquire a 700,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the Dayton, Ohio area. This site will support plans to double production capacity to four aircraft per month by 2027 and offers room for future growth to meet rising demand.
2. Production Ramp Plans
Operations at the new facility are expected to ramp up to deliver four eVTOL aircraft per month by mid-2027. This increase aligns with Joby’s strategy to scale manufacturing and reduce per-unit costs as it transitions from prototyping to commercial service.
3. Advanced Flight Tests & Defense Partnership
Following landmark demonstration flights in Dubai in 2025, the company plans to commence passenger service in 2026. Joby has also partnered with L3Harris to adapt its autonomous hybrid VTOL aircraft for defense applications, potentially expanding its addressable market beyond urban air mobility.
