Joby Aviation has acquired a 700,000-square-foot facility in Dayton, Ohio to expand its manufacturing footprint. This second Ohio plant will boost production capacity, aiming to double aircraft output by 2027 and accelerate delivery timelines.

1. Ohio Facility Acquisition to Double Production Capacity

Joby Aviation has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio, marking its second production site in the state. The newly secured plant will be retrofitted to accommodate Joby’s all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft production lines. With the addition of this facility, the company projects annual aircraft output to increase from 50 units in 2024 to over 100 units by the end of 2027. Joby plans to invest $120 million in capital expenditures to equip the site with automated assembly stations, precision robotics and on-site battery testing labs. The Dayton facility will also house a dedicated quality assurance team, expected to grow from 40 employees at startup to nearly 200 by mid-2026, helping streamline production and reduce per-unit manufacturing time by an estimated 25 percent.

2. International Demonstrations and FAA Certification Progress

In parallel with its manufacturing expansion, Joby has completed three international flight demonstrations in Germany, Singapore and the United Kingdom, showcasing its S4 aircraft’s noise profile and range capabilities. Each demonstration involved a five-minute hover test and a 30-mile cruise at 200 mph, under regulatory observation. Joby has also secured memorandum of understandings with Delta Air Lines and Japan Airlines to explore urban air taxi operations, setting the stage for early commercial routes in Tokyo and Los Angeles by 2026. On the regulatory front, the company reports that 60 percent of FAA Part 23 certification data packages have been submitted, with final airworthiness designation expected by Q3 2025. If these milestones are met, analysts estimate Joby could capture a 35 percent share of the nascent global urban air mobility market, driving potential stock upside of 50 percent in calendar 2026.
