Kentucky American Water Commits $72M to 2025 System Upgrades, $40M for Main Replacements
Kentucky American Water invested $72M in 2025 to upgrade water and wastewater systems across four counties, including $40M replacing over 12 miles of aging mains in Bourbon, Fayette, Owen and Scott counties. The company allocated $11M for hydrant, meter and valve upgrades and began an Owenton booster station installation.
1. 2025 Infrastructure Investments
Kentucky American Water invested nearly $72 million in 2025 to modernize its water and wastewater systems. Capital expenditures targeted treatment plants, pipelines, tanks, pump stations and metering equipment to strengthen reliability and water quality for 550,000 customers.
2. Water Main Replacements
The company allocated $40 million to replace more than 12 miles of aging or problematic water mains in Bourbon, Fayette, Owen and Scott counties. These replacements aim to reduce service interruptions, improve flow capacity and maintain dependable fire protection.
3. Hydrant, Meter and Valve Upgrades
A $11 million allocation funded the upgrade of fire hydrants, valves and metering devices throughout the system. These enhancements support accurate usage measurement and consistent service delivery.
4. Owenton Booster Station Project
Construction of a new booster pump station in Owenton began in 2025 to improve water pressure for northern Owen County customers. Completion is planned in 2026, alongside upgrades to the Owen County fairgrounds tank for easier maintenance.
