Key Republicans seek briefing from Nvidia CEO over Chinese spy allegations
NVDA•Three Republican House committee leaders asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to brief Congress on November 18 about a report alleging ties to a Chinese businesswoman under U.S. scrutiny. Nvidia said Huang speaks with thousands of customer executives annually and that Asian cloud customers receive ordinary business information, not sensitive trade secrets.
1. Congressional briefing request
In a letter dated November 4, Brian Mast, John Moolenaar and Eric Crawford asked Huang for a closed-door briefing on a report about his alleged relationship with Alice Huang and Nvidia’s security protocols against foreign adversary espionage. The lawmakers said they wanted to determine whether U.S. national security had been put at risk.
2. Chip access concerns
The New York Times reported last month that U.S. authorities were investigating Alice Huang, a former executive of Singapore-based Megaspeed, which buys AI chips from Nvidia. Authorities have scrutinized Megaspeed over suspicions it helped Beijing access advanced AI chips barred from shipment to China.
3. Nvidia response
Nvidia did not comment on the letter. The company said Huang talks with thousands of customer executives each year, and that cloud customers in Asia receive ordinary business information, not sensitive Nvidia trade secrets or information tied to U.S. national security. Nvidia added that it acts on updates from the U.S. government about parties and entities of concern.
