Kratos wins $33.6 million contract for NASA spacecraft power system
KTOS•Kratos Defense & Security Solutions received a $33.6 million contract to provide the power conversion system for NASA’s SR-1 Freedom spacecraft. The spacecraft targets a 2028 launch to demonstrate nuclear electric propulsion on a mission to Mars.
1. Contract details
Kratos will provide the power conversion system as a subcontractor to Sierra Lobo under NASA’s SpaceDOC III contract. The system will convert reactor heat into electricity for propulsion and spacecraft operations. SR-1 Freedom targets launch in 2028 carrying the SkyFall payload.
