Kratos to Build 5G NTN Ground System for SKY Perfect JSAT

KTOSKTOS

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has been chosen by SKY Perfect JSAT to develop and validate a software-based 5G Non-Terrestrial Network ground system under its Universal NTN initiative for the Asia-Pacific region. OpenSpace architecture will support early-stage validation, scalability and interoperability with evolving 3GPP standards.

1. Partnership Details

On March 23, Kratos was selected by SKY Perfect JSAT to develop and validate a software-based 5G Non-Terrestrial Network ground system under its Universal NTN initiative, aimed at integrating satellite and terrestrial networks across the Asia-Pacific region. Under the phased engagement, Kratos will conduct entity-based integration and technical validation to ensure early interoperability.

2. OpenSpace Architecture Advantages

Kratos’ OpenSpace family—comprising digitizers, quantum virtual hardware and a fully orchestrated platform—delivers a software-defined ground system that supports multi-vendor interoperability, large-scale deployment and compatibility with existing VSAT infrastructure. Virtualization reduces risk and accelerates experimentation, enabling rapid scalability for NTN use cases.

3. Strategic and Market Implications

This collaboration positions Kratos at the forefront of 5G NTN development as global operators seek seamless connectivity and cost efficiencies. Alignment with evolving 3GPP standards and the broader 5G ecosystem enhances Kratos’s prospects for future contracts in the burgeoning non-terrestrial network segment.
