Kremlin accuses Ukraine of flouting spirit of US peace efforts with strikes on Russian oil refineries
USO•The Kremlin said Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries ran counter to US peace efforts after a drone struck a refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region. Kyiv said it had paused refinery strikes for three days but resumed them after Russia continued attacking Ukraine’s energy sector.
1. Kremlin criticism
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil facilities contradicted US efforts to initiate a peace process. He said Moscow did not believe Kyiv had complied with the energy ceasefire and called the latest refinery strike “nothing new.”
2. Ceasefire dispute
President Donald Trump declared an energy ceasefire on Sunday. Ukraine said it first learned of the declaration from media reports, while Russia did not publicly commit to it. Russia had argued that the ceasefire’s scope was undetermined and said on Wednesday that it had struck seven Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.
