Kyiv says Russia hits energy targets despite Trump ceasefire
USO•Ukraine said Russian strikes hit energy facilities despite a ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, as attacks killed several people and wounded dozens. The EU approved a new set of sanctions on Russia, while Moscow said talks on a possible energy ceasefire were continuing.
1. Attacks hit energy sites
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a Russian drone hit a gas production facility and drones struck a petrol station. He called the attacks violations of the energy ceasefire announced by Trump and said Ukraine had not attacked Russian refineries overnight.
2. Casualties in Ukraine
Russian strikes overnight and into Monday killed at least three people in Kharkiv, with further morning attacks wounding at least 22, municipal officials said. At least three other people were reported killed on Sunday in Ivano-Frankivsk.
3. Ceasefire and sanctions
The Kremlin said talks about a possible energy ceasefire were ongoing, but rejected Zelenskiy's proposal for a 60-day truce. The EU approved its largest set of sanctions since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, while European officials urged the United States to maintain pressure on Moscow.
