Kyiv says Russia hits energy targets despite Trump ceasefire announcement
USO•Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Russia struck at least six energy targets despite a ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Ukraine said it was willing to agree to an energy ceasefire, while the EU approved 1,569 new names for its sanctions list.
1. Energy ceasefire disputed
Zelenskiy said Russia hit at least six energy targets during airstrikes across Ukraine, including a gas facility and a petrol station. He said Ukraine was willing to agree to an energy ceasefire but that Russia was unwilling to abide by one. The Kremlin said talks about a possible energy ceasefire were continuing, while spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected Zelenskiy’s proposal for a full 60-day truce.
2. Attacks hit cities
A Russian strike on a high-rise apartment block in Kyiv killed two people and injured at least nine, officials said. Attacks elsewhere killed at least six people, including three near Kramatorsk, while strikes in Kharkiv killed at least three and wounded at least 22. Ukraine’s grid had faced a new Russian strike campaign for two weeks, causing daily hours-long power cuts in Kyiv.
3. EU adds sanctions
EU foreign ministers added 1,569 names to the bloc’s sanctions list of banned individuals and businesses, which they described as the largest single package to date. Zelenskiy said elections suspended during wartime could be held if Moscow agreed to a full ceasefire for 60 days.
