Kyivstar Launches Starlink Mobile Data for Viber, WhatsApp and Maps
VEON•VEON’s Kyivstar now offers satellite data connectivity via Starlink Mobile for Viber, WhatsApp and Google Maps when terrestrial networks are unavailable or during power outages in Ukraine. The service will later expand to Helsi e-health and Uklon ride-hailing apps as more digital services adapt for satellite access.
1. Satellite Connectivity Launch
VEON’s Kyivstar has integrated Starlink Mobile satellite data to maintain connectivity for messaging and navigation apps when terrestrial networks fail or during power outages in Ukraine.
2. Initial App Support
Starting June 16, customers with compatible smartphones can automatically switch to Starlink Mobile data for Viber, WhatsApp and Google Maps in areas without terrestrial coverage.
3. Future Service Expansion
Kyivstar plans to extend satellite access to its Helsi e-health platform and Uklon ride-hailing app, with additional digital services to follow as they are adapted for satellite integration.
4. Strategic Importance
The partnership leverages Starlink’s 650-satellite constellation to bolster network resilience, aiming to enhance customer loyalty and drive digital service revenue during disruptions.
