L3Harris completed production of the first 35 Viper Shield electronic warfare systems for the global F-16 fleet.
Viper Shield detects, identifies, and counters electronic threats via an internal system or external pod; the first pod was also assembled.
The program moved toward scale-up, with full-rate production planned for 233 systems already on order from eight allied nations.
Development, lab testing, flight testing, and current production were funded by a $1 billion shared investment by F-16 operator countries.
The system uses an all-digital, software-defined architecture with commercial-off-the-shelf components, targeting easier upgrades, reduced weight, and a smaller form factor.
