L3Harris is investing billions to expand its Camden solid rocket motor facilities, adding a 110-acre campus with over 20 buildings to increase large motor capacity sixfold. Its 1,500 employees produce over 115,000 solid rocket motors annually, and an IPO of the motor business is scheduled for the second half.
1. Official Visit Highlights Strategic Importance
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth toured L3Harris’s Camden site, engaging with 1,500 employees who design, build and deliver propulsion systems for critical missile programs. He emphasized the site’s role in strengthening U.S. deterrence by producing more than 115,000 solid rocket motors annually for PAC-3 interceptors, hypersonic systems and target missiles.
2. Expansion and Modernization Plans
L3Harris is constructing a new Arkansas Advanced Propulsion Facilities (AAPF) campus on 110 acres, featuring over 20 buildings and advanced manufacturing technologies. This expansion will increase large solid rocket motor capacity sixfold through automation and digital process controls, providing long-term domestic surge capability for Munitions Acceleration Council programs.
3. Future IPO and Business Outlook
After acquiring the solid rocket motor business in 2023, L3Harris has transformed operations to meet rising Department of War demand. The company plans an initial public offering of this business in the second half of the year, aiming to capitalize on its enhanced production scale and government support.
