Landstar’s first-quarter EPS rose to $1.16, up 31 cents year-over-year and beating estimates by 4 cents, while revenue reached $1.17 billion, a 2% increase. April revenue per load climbed 13% year-over-year, reversing normal seasonal declines and signaling an early upcycle.

1. First-Quarter Financial Results

Landstar reported first-quarter EPS of $1.16, up 31 cents year-over-year and 4 cents above consensus, while consolidated revenue reached $1.17 billion, a 2% increase that defied the typical mid- to high-single-digit seasonal decline.

2. Yield Growth and Seasonal Trends

Total truck transportation yield increased 6% year-over-year despite a 2% drop in load count, with sequential yield rising 0.2% versus a normal 4% seasonal decline. April revenue per load jumped 13% year-over-year, underscoring stronger momentum.

3. Segment Performance

Heavy-haul revenue climbed 18% year-over-year on a 6% load increase and 12% yield gain, fueled by data center, energy and defense projects. Standard flatbed loads fell but yield still advanced 7.3%.

4. BCO Capacity and Utilization

BCO revenue rose 11% to $475 million as loads grew 7% and yield 4%; truck count held near 8,476 units, down just 2% year-over-year. Retention improved and utilization increased 9% to about 25 loads per truck.
