DRS•Leonardo DRS wins propulsion contract for KDDX destroyer program
Leonardo DRS won a contract from Doosan Enerbility to supply the electric propulsion system for South Korea’s KDDX destroyer program.
The scope covers integrated electric power and propulsion equipment from prime movers to propellers for the lead ship built by Hanwha Ocean.
The system includes 100-Series permanent magnet propulsion motors paired with compact variable-frequency drives for full-electric-drive surface combatants.
KDDX is expected to deliver at least six guided-missile destroyers, marking South Korea’s first indigenously designed destroyer program.
