Lifeway Foods slumps as higher costs dent Q2 profit

** Shares of kefir-maker Lifeway Foods fell as much as 19.5% to $23.51 after the company reported second-quarter profit that missed analysts' expectations.
** The stock was set for its worst day since September 2025 if losses held. Up to the previous close, the shares were up about 21% year to date.
Higher costs weigh on profit despite stronger sales
** Lifeway reported second-quarter earnings per share of one cent, missing analysts' estimates of 27 cents, hurt by higher input and transport costs.
** Quarterly net sales rose 24% to $66.9 million, beating expectations of $61.4 million.
** "Demand remained robust even as elevated milk prices created the primary margin headwind," CEO Julie Smolyansky said.
