Lightspeed Commerce Launches AI OCR Inventory Automation to Cut Receiving Time
Lightspeed’s new AI-powered OCR tool automates packing slip scanning and draft purchase order creation, extracting SKUs, quantities and pricing to cut manual entry errors and speed up inventory receiving. Integrated natively into Lightspeed Retail and the Scanner app, the feature is in beta for select customers with broader availability slated for spring 2026.
1. AI-Powered Inventory Automation Tool
Lightspeed has introduced an AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature that transforms manual packing slip entry into a scan-and-review process. The tool reads supplier packing slips or invoices, extracts product details including SKUs, quantities, pricing and variants, and populates a draft purchase order within the POS.

By converting line-by-line manual entry into an automated workflow, retailers can reduce receiving time, minimize costly SKU mismatches and pricing errors, and prevent missed sales due to stock discrepancies. Early tests indicate significant improvements in inventory accuracy and faster product availability on the sales floor.
3. Seamless Integration and Usability
Built directly into Lightspeed Retail and the Lightspeed Scanner app, the OCR solution requires no third-party integrations and can be accessed via scanner, tablet or desktop. Incoming data is automatically matched against existing catalog records to validate entries, with options to adjust quantities, approve updates or export to CSV for bulk edits.
4. Beta Availability and Rollout Timeline
The AI OCR feature is currently available in beta for select Lightspeed customers, with plans for a broader rollout in spring 2026. Interested retailers can request a demo or inquire about joining the beta through their Lightspeed representative.
