European markets hold up despite Asia chip selloff
Most major European equity markets are flat to slightly higher on Tuesday, avoiding the worst of the tech selloff that gripped Asia overnight and looks set to weigh on the Nasdaq NQcv1.
The pan-continental STOXX 600 .STOXX is little changed after finishing flat on Monday. Breadth is positive with about 60% of stocks rising.
Other major bourses in Europe are a touch higher. The DAX .GDAXI, CAC .FCHI and FTSE .FTSE are up between 0.1% and 0.4%.
The mood in Europe is far brighter than it was in Asia. South Korea's Kospi .KS11 shed almost 11%, while the Nikkei .N225 tumbled 4% as chip stocks slid.
Europe's tech sector .SX8P is only down 0.4% although it fell about 1.7% on Monday after a report said China was developing DUV chipmaking tools in potential competition with ASML.
