Lockheed demonstrates rapidly retrainable AI sonar system SensorMAX for submarine detection at RIMPAC 2026
LMT•SensorMAX demo at RIMPAC 2026
Lockheed Martin demonstrated SensorMAX, a rapidly retrainable AI/ML sonar system for antisubmarine warfare, during RIMPAC 2026.
Two MH-60R helicopters used the system to monitor sonobuoy acoustic data, supporting faster detection and tracking of undersea threats.
Expanded surveillance capacity
The interface handled up to eight simultaneous sonobuoy feeds, doubling legacy surveillance capacity in the exercise.
Lockheed Martin positioned the results as a step toward fleetwide crew-uncrewed teaming, enabled by portable, cross-sensor AI deployment.
Rapid retraining and over-the-air updates
Operators labeled new signatures, retrained models in under 5 minutes, then pushed encrypted over-the-air updates back to aircraft.
