1. Major THAAD Production Contract
Lockheed Martin received a seven-year undefinitized contract action with potential value up to $35 billion to quadruple production of THAAD interceptors. The award activates the January framework agreement and signals long-term demand under the Department of War’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy, enabling accelerated capacity growth and supply chain commitments.
2. Capital Investments for Expansion
The company has earmarked over $9 billion through 2030 for munitions acceleration, including groundbreaking of a new Munitions Production Center in Troy, Alabama, and opening of a Next Generation Interceptor facility in Courtland, Alabama, alongside the Munitions Acceleration Center in Camden, Arkansas. These facilities are designed to boost throughput, modernize production lines and meet evolving missile defense requirements.
3. Defense Industrial Base and Workforce Impact
The multiyear procurement approach strengthens the domestic defense industrial base by providing stable demand signals, driving supplier collaboration and creating tens of thousands of manufacturing, engineering and skilled trades jobs. Enhanced production resilience and speed-of-delivery are expected to ensure the U.S. and its allies maintain critical missile defense layers against advanced threats.
