Lucid Motors Rolls Out Hands-Free Update as Top Engineer Departs
LCID•Emad Dlala, Lucid Motors’ vice president of engineering and digital, departed just weeks after Silvio Napoli’s April appointment as CEO, prompting direct reporting realignments for vehicle engineering and software VPs ahead of the sub-$50,000 Cosmos launch. Lucid also deployed a DreamDrive 2 Pro update to North American Gravity SUVs—adding hands-free driving, Google Maps integration, adaptive high-beams and charging tools—fuelling a 4% share gain.
1. Executive Departure and Leadership Shakeup
Emad Dlala left Lucid Motors in early June, becoming the first senior executive to depart under new CEO Silvio Napoli, who formally took the helm last week. Dlala had overseen powertrain and digital engineering for more than five years and was elevated in November to lead all engineering and digital functions.
2. Organizational Realignment Under New CEO
Following Dlala’s exit, Vivek Attaluri (vice president of vehicle engineering) and Marc Solsona Palomar (vice president of software) now report directly to Napoli. The reshuffle is part of a broader reorganization aimed at streamlining operations and accelerating innovation ahead of the mid-market Cosmos launch.
3. DreamDrive 2 Pro Software Update
Lucid began distributing a software update for Gravity SUVs equipped with DreamDrive 2 Pro across North America, introducing hands-free steering, braking and acceleration on eligible highways and automated lane changes when directed. The update also adds adaptive high-beam control, Google Maps navigation with live business and parking data, and real-time charging station availability.
4. Market Reaction and Outlook
Shares rose roughly 4% following the software rollout announcement, reflecting investor optimism around enhanced ADAS features. The leadership changes and impending Cosmos launch will be key catalysts for next-generation sales growth and could influence investor sentiment in the coming quarters.
