Lucid to Power 35,000 Robotaxis in $500M Uber-Nuro Partnership
LCID•Lucid signed a three-way deal with Uber and Nuro to deploy 35,000 robotaxis using Lucid Gravity SUVs integrated with Nuro's autonomous software on Uber's network. Uber's nearly $500 million commitment to Nuro is tied to tranches unlocked by driverless testing this year, full autonomy by year-end, and 2027 expansion.
1. Partnership Structure
Lucid joined Uber and Nuro in a three-way agreement to deploy 35,000 robotaxis using Lucid Gravity SUVs and future midsize models integrated with Nuro's autonomous software across Uber's ride-hailing network.
2. Funding and Milestones
Uber has invested nearly $500 million into Nuro through direct and milestone-linked arrangements, with additional tranches tied to scheduled driverless testing later this year, fully autonomous passenger operations by year-end, and broader service expansion in 2027.
3. Testing and Permissions
Nuro secured California permits to test Lucid Gravity vehicles without safety drivers in selected counties and received authorization to carry passengers in supervised autonomous trials, preparing for a San Francisco Bay Area launch later this year.
4. Strategic Implications
The partnership could boost Lucid's production volumes and revenue streams but raises dilution concerns as scaling production and meeting software integration targets may require additional capital and equity issuance.
