Lucid, Nuro, and Uber on Jan. 5 unveiled their production-intent Lucid Gravity-based robotaxi with a next-gen sensor array and Uber-designed in-cabin experience at CES 2026. Autonomous on-road testing led by Nuro began in December in the San Francisco Bay Area ahead of a planned commercial launch later this year.

1. Global Robotaxi Unveiling at CES 2026

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Lucid Group joined forces with Nuro and Uber to reveal their production-intent robotaxi built on the Lucid Gravity platform. The vehicle integrates Lucid’s signature design with a purpose-built, low-profile roof-mounted sensor halo housing high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar sensors and radars for full 360-degree perception. Halo-mounted LEDs enable clear vehicle identification and status updates, while Lucid’s spacious interior offers seating for up to six passengers and generous luggage capacity—positioning Lucid to target both premium individual and group ride markets.

2. Autonomous On-Road Testing Milestone

In December 2025, Nuro commenced autonomous on-road testing of Lucid-based robotaxi prototypes in the San Francisco Bay Area under the supervision of certified AV operators. This step comes after extensive closed-course trials and large-scale simulation, and represents a critical validation phase ahead of a planned commercial launch in late 2026. For investors, successful public-road performance and regulatory approval in a high-visibility market like the Bay Area could accelerate revenue recognition and bolster confidence in the technology’s scalability.

3. Advanced In-Cabin Rider Experience

Lucid and Uber unveiled the in-cab experience designed to differentiate the service. Interactive infotainment screens allow riders to adjust heated seats, climate settings and audio, request stops or support, and view real-time visualizations of the vehicle’s sensor perception and planned path. This level of transparency and personalization supports Uber’s goal of delivering an affordable, scalable autonomous ride option, while reinforcing Lucid’s premium brand positioning and potential for higher per-ride yields.

4. Production Ramp and Path to Commercial Launch

Pending final validation of the robotaxi system, Lucid expects to initiate production at its Arizona factory in the second half of 2026. Management has indicated that the Arizona facility, which doubled output year-over-year in 2025 to over 18,000 vehicles, has the capacity to scale further to meet projected demand for robotaxi units. Investors will monitor production tooling investments and timeline execution closely, as on-time volume output is key to achieving the anticipated service launch and revenue ramp in the San Francisco Bay Area.
