Major automakers urge US Congress to pass permanent ban on Chinese vehicles
XLY•A group representing nearly all major automakers urged US lawmakers to pass a permanent ban on Chinese vehicles when Congress returns next week after the midterm elections.
1. Automakers call for ban
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation urged lawmakers to pass a permanent ban on Chinese vehicles. The group represents General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen and other major automakers.
2. Industry concerns
Alliance president John Bozzella said Chinese imports pose surveillance risks and could disadvantage manufacturers that have made long-term investments in American communities. In September, Senate sponsors of the bipartisan measure agreed to delay an effort to fast-track it until November.
