Mastercard Launches Agent Pay Pilot with UOB in Singapore and Malaysia
Mastercard has launched authenticated agentic transactions in Singapore and Malaysia, partnering with UOB and local banks to pilot its Agent Pay framework across ASEAN. The company plans to open a regional AI Center of Excellence in Singapore later this year, combining an innovation hub with cybersecurity and AI expertise.
1. Rollout of Agentic Payments
Mastercard activated authenticated agentic transactions in Singapore and Malaysia as part of its regional AI strategy. The initial wave leverages partnerships with UOB and local banks to test scalability and interoperability, with plans to extend the service into additional ASEAN markets.
2. Technology and Security Framework
The Agent Pay framework combines tokenized credentials, verifiable intent records and Mastercard Agentic Tokens with Payment Passkeys to secure AI-initiated transactions. End-to-end auditability ensures that every transaction is anchored in consumer authorization and remains tamper-resistant.
3. Regional Expansion and Future Initiatives
Later this year, Mastercard will open its largest Asia Pacific AI Center of Excellence in Singapore, featuring an innovation hub, cybersecurity infrastructure and AI expertise. In parallel, Mastercard agreed to acquire stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK for up to $1.8 billion to enhance its digital assets capabilities.
