Mastercard Pilots Atomic Euros-DKK Settlement on TIPS Platform
MA•Mastercard has joined a Eurosystem-led TIPS X-CCY pilot with Danmarks Nationalbank and Sveriges Riksbank to test instant euros-to-DKK cross-currency settlement via its Mastercard Move platform. It achieved atomic settlement of euros-to-DKK flows under the One Leg Out Instant Credit Transfer scheme, furthering Mastercard’s direct payment connectivity for faster global transfers.
1. Pilot Collaboration
Mastercard partnered with Danmarks Nationalbank and Sveriges Riksbank in the Eurosystem’s TIPS X-CCY pilot to test its Mastercard Move platform for instant cross-currency transfers. The trial focused on euros-to-Danish kroner transactions, showcasing a collaborative approach between private and public sector payment infrastructures.
2. Atomic Settlement Execution
The pilot successfully settled both sides of the transaction simultaneously, processing inbound and outbound legs under the One Leg Out Instant Credit Transfer scheme. Atomic settlement ensures that both currency exchanges occur at the same moment, removing settlement risk and delays.
3. Strategic Connectivity
By building direct links to the TIPS platform, Mastercard advances its strategy to offer domestic-level speed, certainty and transparency in cross-border payments. This development sets the stage for expanding to additional currency corridors and supports bank, fintech and public sector partners relying on the Move network.
4. Future Expansion
Following the euros-to-DKK trial, Mastercard plans to extend TIPS connectivity to more currencies and payment corridors. The next phases will evaluate scalability, consumer adoption and potential integration of additional settlement schemes to enhance global money movement.
