1. Strategic Cargo Security Partnership
Matson formed a strategic partnership with BNSF Railway and War-Lok on March 2 to launch an enhanced cargo security program adding two layers of protection at no extra cost. The program installs War-Lok devices on containers departing Los Angeles for the BNSF rail network and positions containers in the lower well of intermodal cars.
2. Fourth-Quarter Financial Results
In Q4 Matson delivered EPS of $4.60 and net income of $143.1 million on revenue of $851.9 million, benefiting from high freight demand on China routes despite a year-over-year revenue decline from $890.3 million. Strong performance in key customer segments helped offset broader demand softening.
3. Share Repurchase Activity
During the quarter Matson repurchased 0.7 million shares for $78.1 million, reflecting management’s confidence in the company’s cash generation and balanced capital allocation strategy.
4. First-Quarter 2026 Outlook
Matson expects Ocean Transportation operating income of approximately $50 million for Q1 2026, down from last year due to lower China service volumes, with logistics income projected to be modestly lower year over year.
