MEDIROM Group Q1 Revenue Per Customer Jumps 7.7% to ¥7,822
MRM•MEDIROM Group’s Q1 average revenue per customer rose 7.7% year-over-year to ¥7,822, beating the Japanese industry average by ¥3,016 despite a 13.9% drop in total salon customers to 192,000. Independent contractors now constitute 45.1% of therapists under a hybrid staffing model designed to support margins.
1. Salon Operation Business
In Q1 2026, MEDIROM Group’s salon division delivered average revenue per customer of ¥7,822 (up 7.7% YoY), surpassing the Japanese industry average of ¥4,806 by ¥3,016. Total customer visits fell 13.9% to 192,000 and the salon count declined to 287, while the repeat ratio edged up to 78.0%.
2. Strategic Hybrid Staffing Model
As of March 2026, independent contractors made up 45.1% of the therapist workforce, up from 29.8% in Q1 2025. The hybrid staffing model combines hourly wages, fixed salaries and uncapped performance-based contractor compensation to boost therapist motivation, retention and margin stability.
3. World ID Partnership
Under a Master Service Agreement with Tools for Humanity, MEDIROM has deployed Orb devices at Re.Ra.Ku® locations, achieving roughly 31,000 total verifications by end-Q1 and recording 10,552 new verifications in the quarter despite seasonal slowdowns in January–March.
4. HealthTech Lav® Business
The Lav® remote Specified Health Guidance service now partners with 106 health insurance providers and has 13,226 cumulative users. By leveraging salon therapists as Lav coaches, MEDIROM generates high-margin synergies and targets market expansion where national health guidance participation trails government targets.
