Mercer Rosenthal resumes wastewater discharge into Saale after discoloration report
MERC•Mercer International resumed gradual wastewater discharge from its Rosenthal mill into the Saale on Oct. 3, after halting it following a discoloration report on Oct. 1. A temporary swimming ban was imposed in the southern area of the Bleiloch reservoir as a precaution.
1. Discharge resumes gradually
Mercer International halted wastewater discharge at its Rosenthal mill during a restart from a four-week maintenance shutdown and stored wastewater in on-site buffer tanks after a report of discoloration near the effluent outfall on Oct. 1. Discharge from the treatment plant resumed gradually on Oct. 3 in coordination with environmental regulators, while preparations continued to restart pulp production.
