Merz confidante says lower sales tax on petrol is one option

BERLIN, Sept. 16 (Reuters) - Senior German conservative lawmaker Thorsten Frei, a confidante of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said on Wednesday that lowering the sales tax on gasoline would be an obvious step in energy price-relief measures.
Frei told broadcasting group RTL/ntv that relief measures should come into effect in October, adding that lowering the energy tax on gasoline was also an option.
