Meta and Broadcom Launch $125M UCLA AI Chip Research Hub

Meta and Broadcom are spearheading a $125 million semiconductor research hub at UCLA’s Samueli School of Engineering, backed by a five-year commitment from Applied Materials, GlobalFoundries and Synopsys. The partnership aims to accelerate development of energy-efficient AI chips, strengthen the U.S. supply chain and advance Meta’s in-house infrastructure capabilities.

Meta and Broadcom, joined by Applied Materials, GlobalFoundries and Synopsys, have pledged $125 million over five years to establish a semiconductor research hub at UCLA’s Samueli School of Engineering. The facility will integrate chip design, software, manufacturing and materials research under one program.

The partnership is intended to accelerate development of energy-efficient AI hardware and reduce Meta’s dependence on external chip suppliers by fostering in-house infrastructure capabilities.
