Meta Commits $21B to CoreWeave, Pulls Ads Recruiting Lawsuit Plaintiffs

METAMETA

Meta is removing ads recruiting plaintiffs for over 5,700 addiction lawsuits after juries ordered $375M and $6M in damages. The company also committed an additional $21B to CoreWeave through 2032 and launched its Muse Spark AI model across Facebook and Meta AI app to bolster capacity and AI competitiveness.

1. Removal of Plaintiff Recruitment Ads

Meta began pulling Facebook and Instagram ads that solicited plaintiffs for its social media addiction lawsuits, asserting these recruitment efforts violated platform policies and allowed trial lawyers to profit from its services. The ads targeted individuals for both state and federal cases alleging young users became addicted to its platforms.

2. Litigation Status and Jury Awards

More than 3,300 addiction lawsuits remain pending in California state courts and roughly 2,400 are centralized in federal court, challenging Meta’s impact on youth mental health. Recent verdicts include a Los Angeles jury awarding $6 million for depression and suicidal harm and a New Mexico jury ordering $375 million for alleged safety failures.

3. $21B CoreWeave Deal and Muse Spark AI Rollout

Meta committed an additional $21 billion to extend its CoreWeave cloud partnership through 2032, raising total spend to $35 billion to support its expanding AI infrastructure. At the same time, it launched the Muse Spark AI model across its Meta AI app and Facebook platform, targeting consumer use cases like shopping assistance and information queries.
