Meta Launches $2.99–$3.99 Subscription Tiers and Rolls Out Paid AI Chatbot Services
META•Meta launched Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99 monthly and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 with paid AI chatbot subscriptions, lifting its shares by nearly 3%. Deutsche Bank upgraded Meta after its GEM AI model boosted ad clicks 3.5× and Q1 ad revenue rose 33% to $55 billion.
1. Paid Subscription Plans Launch
Meta rolled out paid subscription plans—Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99 per month and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99—offering enhanced analytics, wider audience reach, premium stickers, custom ringtones and app themes globally.
2. AI Chatbot Subscription Initiative
The company plans to monetize its AI chatbot through upcoming subscription tiers, aiming to diversify revenue streams beyond advertising, a strategy that propelled its share price up nearly 3%.
3. Deutsche Bank Upgrade
Deutsche Bank upgraded Meta to Overweight after its proprietary GEM AI model drove a 3.5× increase in ad clicks, contributing to Q1 ad revenue growth of 33% to $55 billion and a net cash balance of $22 billion.
4. Cloud Computing Exploration
At its annual shareholders meeting, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said entering the cloud computing market is "definitely on the table" to leverage excess capacity in the company’s expanding network of AI data centers.
