Meta loses appeals against interim measures imposed by French regulators
META•Meta lost its appeals against interim measures requiring it to negotiate with French press organisations, disclose information about platform revenue and protected content, and avoid degrading how press content is displayed.
1. Appeals rejected
The Paris Court of Appeals rejected Meta’s appeals against two interim measures issued by French regulators in July over press organisations’ publishing rights. French law requires press agencies and publishers to authorise digital reproduction of their work and entitles them to payment.
2. Court cites competition concerns
The court said Meta’s practices, particularly how it determines payments to press publishers under neighboring rights, may constitute an abuse of a dominant position prohibited under European and French competition law. Meta said it was disappointed and would comply with the measures, assess next steps and continue negotiating in good faith.
