Meta Signs 1 GW Space-Based Solar Deal with Overview Energy, 100 GWh Storage Plan
Meta signed an agreement with Overview Energy to secure up to 1 GW of electricity beamed from geosynchronous orbit by the end of the decade under a milestone-driven deal. It also partnered with Noon Energy on a 25 MW/2.5 GWh storage pilot in 2028 toward a full 1 GW/100 GWh storage target.
1. Overview Energy Space-Based Solar Agreement
Meta secured up to 1 GW of continuous, carbon-free electricity from geosynchronous orbit under a partnership with Overview Energy. The deal grants preferential access based on technology milestones and aims to beam solar power directly to Earth-based receivers by 2030.
2. Noon Energy Storage Partnership
Meta agreed to an initial 25 MW/2.5 GWh energy storage pilot with Noon Energy in 2028, scaling toward a 1 GW/100 GWh capacity target. This project will enhance the company’s ability to store and dispatch renewable energy for its AI-driven data centers.
3. Strategic Renewable Energy Expansion
These partnerships complement Meta’s existing backing of over 30 GW of new energy projects across 28 states, including wind, solar, nuclear, and geothermal. They reflect a broader strategy to secure reliable, carbon-free power as AI workloads drive surging electricity demand.
