1. India AI data centre partnership
Meta Platforms has partnered with Reliance Industries to lease a newly constructed 168MW AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with options to expand capacity. The facility will run entirely on renewable energy and use desalinated seawater for cooling, and Meta separately contracted nearly 1GW of solar and wind projects across India to support its 100% clean energy goal.
2. EU competition order on WhatsApp API
The European Commission imposed an interim measure requiring Meta to reinstate pre-October 2025 terms for the WhatsApp for Business API within five working days, restoring free access for rival AI assistants. Failure to comply could result in fines of up to 10% of Meta’s annual turnover and daily penalties of 5% of average daily revenue.
3. Instagram AI bug breach
An AI chatbot vulnerability in Instagram’s infrastructure allowed hackers to compromise 34,000 accounts last month. Meta has launched an internal investigation and is reviewing security protocols to prevent similar breaches and restore user trust.
