Meta tells Brazil court it treats Lula and Bolsonaro campaigns equally
META•Meta told Brazil's Superior Electoral Court it has adopted measures to ensure equal treatment of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's and Flavio Bolsonaro's presidential campaigns on its platforms. The company said it introduced 17 initiatives, including human review of both campaigns' ad accounts and review of automated restrictions within two hours.
1. Measures submitted to court
Meta told Brazil's Superior Electoral Court it had adopted measures to ensure equal treatment of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro's campaigns ahead of Sunday's election runoff. The filing followed a justice's order giving the company 24 hours to prove it had implemented measures for equal content distribution.
2. Ad account reviews
In a nine-page filing, Meta listed 17 initiatives and attached a technical declaration saying content related to both campaigns is treated equally and non-discriminatorily. Meta said it implemented prior human review of ad accounts for both campaigns, and automated restrictions on either campaign's ad account are reviewed within two hours; the process will remain in place until the runoff.
