Meta to Lease 168MW AI Data Center in India's Jamnagar
META•Meta will lease a 168MW AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, from Reliance with end-to-end management and desalinated seawater cooling. The campus, powered entirely by renewable energy at Meta's cost, is due in two years and complements nearly 1GW of new solar and wind capacity deals.
1. Lease Agreement Details
Meta and Reliance signed an agreement for Meta to lease a 168MW AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Under the deal, Reliance Industries assumes full responsibility for construction, design, power sourcing, connectivity and daily operations, with a projected two-year build timeline.
2. Facility Design and Operations
The Jamnagar facility will utilize desalinated seawater for cooling and run exclusively on renewable energy. Meta will cover all energy and water costs, while Reliance manages campus utilities and infrastructure.
3. Renewable Energy Commitments
In parallel, Meta secured nearly 1GW of clean energy capacity from two Indian firms: 837MW of solar and wind from CleanMax across Rajasthan and Karnataka, and 88MW from Fourth Partner Energy in four states. These agreements ensure a renewable energy supply equal to the data center’s demand.
4. Strategic Impact
This expansion marks Meta’s first AI data center in India and deepens its partnership with Reliance following a $5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms. The Jamnagar campus will bolster Meta’s global AI infrastructure and signify a long-term commitment to the Indian market.
