Threads has surpassed 500 million monthly active users, reaching half of Mark Zuckerberg’s 1 billion target and driven by rising engagement in sports, music, books and parenting communities. Meta is introducing a Communities Hub in the main navigation, custom community icons, Community Champions and Progress tools, and a “Your Algo” feed-control feature.
Threads has reached 500 million monthly active users, representing 50% of the 1 billion-user goal set at launch in 2023. Growth has been especially strong in topic-based communities such as sports, music, books and parenting, signaling sustained engagement beyond initial sign-ups.
The new Communities Hub places topic groups directly in the app’s main navigation menu, making it easier for users to browse and join interest-based forums. Meta is also rolling out custom community icons to help groups stand out and improve discovery.
Meta has introduced Community Champions to recognize highly active contributors and Community Progress indicators to highlight topics nearing full community status. These tools are designed to foster engagement and incentivize participation within emerging groups.
The “Your Algo” feature gives users temporary control over their recommendation settings, allowing adjustments for one, three or seven days. This tool aims to boost user satisfaction by tailoring content discovery and enhancing time spent on the platform.
