Mexico to require digital platforms to protect minors from violent, sexual content
XLK•President Claudia Sheinbaum said she would sign a decree requiring digital platforms, including social networks and streaming sites, to shield minors from violent, sexual and other harmful content. The move follows an attack at a Coahuila high school that left one person dead and three wounded.
1. Decree targets platforms
Sheinbaum said on Wednesday she would sign a presidential decree later that day requiring digital platforms to shield children and teenagers from violent, sexual and other harmful content. The decree will step up scrutiny of technology companies in Mexico.
2. School attack preceded move
Sheinbaum backed the decree after two 18-year-old former students attacked a high school in the northern state of Coahuila in early October, killing one person and wounding three others.
