Microsoft Leases 30,000 Nvidia GPUs in Norway, Buys 3,200 Acres in Wyoming
Microsoft will lease 30,000 Nvidia GPUs at Nscale’s 230-megawatt Narvik data center, securing capacity previously sought for OpenAI’s Stargate project. The company will buy 3,200 acres in Cheyenne, Wyoming for data center expansion, funding infrastructure upgrades with Black Hills Energy and committing to water conservation and job creation.
1. Lease of GPUs in Norway
Microsoft has secured a lease for 30,000 Nvidia GPUs at Nscale’s 230-megawatt data center campus in Narvik, Norway. The site had been under early consideration by OpenAI’s Stargate project, and this agreement ensures Microsoft’s AI customers will have access to high-performance compute capacity across Europe as demand grows.
2. Wyoming land acquisition
Microsoft plans to purchase approximately 3,200 acres in Cheyenne, Wyoming to expand its data center footprint after more than a decade in the state. The company will partner with Black Hills Energy to fund electrical infrastructure upgrades without raising local rates and has pledged to minimize water usage, create jobs and boost the regional tax base.
