Microsoft, NABTU Expand AI Training to 1,500 Instructors and Millions Across 34 States
Microsoft and NABTU expanded their partnership after training 1,500 instructors to launch no-cost AI literacy courses and industry-recognized credentials. The collaboration extends to TradesFutures’ apprenticeship readiness network in 34 states, offering LinkedIn Learning AI fluency courses to millions of skilled craft professionals.
1. Expanded Partnership with NABTU
Microsoft has deepened its collaboration with North America’s Building Trades Unions to integrate AI education into NABTU’s Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee model, building on an initial effort that trained 1,500 instructors in hands-on centers across North America.
2. No-Cost AI Literacy Courses
The initiative introduces free AI fluency courses on Microsoft’s LinkedIn Learning platform, offering foundational AI skills training and industry-recognized credentials to instructors, leaders, apprentices and journey-level workers in the skilled trades.
3. TradesFutures Apprenticeship Network
Through TradesFutures—a nonprofit operating in 34 states—the expanded program connects over 7,700 annual apprenticeship readiness participants to AI training, raising awareness of construction careers and strengthening entry pathways to union apprenticeships.
4. Long-Term Workforce Benefits
By embedding AI skills into union training systems and emphasizing hands-on curriculum tailored to jobsite realities, the partnership aims to equip the trades workforce with tools for safety, productivity and family-sustaining careers in the emerging AI economy.
