Millicom to Use 7,000 km TAM-1 Cable for 18 Tbps, Q2/Q3 2026 Launch
Millicom signed a long-term deal to integrate the 7,000 km TAM-1 subsea fiber network from Trans Americas Fiber System, delivering 18 Tbps per fiber pair to bolster capacity across Central America, the U.S. and Caribbean. The southern route goes live in Q2 2026 and the northern route in Q3 2026.

Millicom International Cellular S.A. entered a long-term commercial agreement with Trans Americas Fiber System to expand its international network footprint across Central America using the TAM-1 system. The agreement aligns with Millicom’s strategy to invest in digital infrastructure and support growing demand for high-capacity connectivity.
2. Network Specifications
TAM-1 spans approximately 7,000 km of subsea fiber linking Florida with Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia. Each fiber pair on the open-access, carrier-neutral platform supports a minimum of 18 Tbps, with the southern segment ready for service in Q2 2026 and the northern segment in Q3 2026.

The integration will enhance route diversity and redundancy, improving network resilience and ensuring low-latency service for operators, enterprises and government clients.
