MiniMed Launches 300-Unit Flex™ App-Controlled Pump with Simplera Sync
MMED•MiniMed debuted its smallest Flex system app-controlled insulin pump in the US, offering a 300-unit reservoir and pairing with the Simplera Sync sensor to achieve 80% real-world Time in Range. Its SmartGuard algorithm delivers five-minute autocorrections and supports seven-day infusion sets with 96% fewer injections.
1. US Commercial Launch
MiniMed has begun US sales of its Flex system, the company’s first app-controlled insulin pump and smallest device, pairing immediately with the Simplera Sync disposable sensor. The Instinct sensor integration is slated for later this summer pending investigational clearance.
2. Compact Design and Extended Wear
The Flex pump holds 300 units of insulin in a housing about half the size of the MiniMed 780G and integrates with a smartphone app for control. Users can wear the Extended infusion set for up to seven days, reducing injections by 96% compared with multiple daily shots.
3. SmartGuard Algorithm and Clinical Performance
Powered by the SmartGuard algorithm with Meal Detection, the system adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes, correcting for missed boluses or underestimated carbohydrates. Real-world data show an 80% Time in Range with recommended settings, exceeding global targets for glucose control.
