MODEC, Eld Energy reach ABS qualification milestone for SOFC power on FPSOs

MODEC reached a New Technology Qualification milestone with ABS for solid oxide fuel cell power systems on FPSOs.

• Technology Feasibility and Concept Verification stages were completed, supporting safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance for offshore deployment.
• Eld Energy’s 40 kW SOFC module is designed to run on FPSO produced gas, targeting lower-emissions power generation.
• Integration on an operating FPSO is planned to test performance offshore, pending prototype validation and ABS engineering reviews.
• Results are expected to support scaling to 120 kW, with a longer-term pathway toward multi-megawatt systems compatible with carbon capture.
