Montana Aerospace's Asco demonstrates full-scale hybrid structure prototype for Airbus
Montana Aerospace subsidiary Asco demonstrated a full-scale hybrid rear secondary structure prototype for Airbus’ next-generation short- and medium-haul aircraft. The research partnership began in 2022 and covers two full-scale prototype assemblies in 2026.
1. Prototype demonstration
Asco demonstrated a full-scale hybrid rear secondary structure prototype for Airbus’ next-generation short- and medium-haul aircraft. The metal-composite design is intended to reduce structural weight and overall costs through shorter final assembly installation times.
2. Further evaluation planned
The highly integrated assembly design supports high production rates, while interchangeable components are intended to simplify maintenance. Airbus plans further evaluation at the complete engine pylon level, including installation trials using Asco’s prototype on a representative structure.
