Most Gulf Coast refineries unaffected by Tropical Storm Bertha

HOUSTON, July 24 (Reuters) - Operations were not affected at most of the 20 refineries in the path of Tropical Storm Bertha this week, according to people familiar with operations at the individual plants.
Among the 19 unaffected by the storm, which weakened in south Louisiana on Wednesday and became a tropical depression over Houston on Thursday, are the nation's largest refinery: Motiva Enterprises' 656,400-bpd Port Arthur, Texas refinery on the Louisiana border.
Phillips 66 reports a unit malfunction at Sweeny refinery
Phillips 66 said on Friday that unit 35 of its 277,000 barrel-per-day Sweeny, Texas refinery malfunctioned because of a lightning strike as the remnants of Bertha passed southwest of Houston on Thursday night.
Storm-covered refineries represent a significant share of U.S. capacity
The 20 refineries Bertha passed over or near have a combined production capacity of 5.8 million bpd, or 32% of national capacity.
