A Motiva spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
Motiva is also repairing a boiler on the 81,000-bpd gasoline-producing fluid catalytic cracker (FCCU), sources told Reuters earlier this week. The repairs are to continue through August 6.
CDUs break down crude oil into feedstocks for all other units at the refinery.
The Motiva refinery is the largest by capacity in the United States. Motiva is a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.
Port Arthur refinery CDU back in operation
Motiva Enterprises returned the second-largest crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 656,400-barrel-per-day Port Arthur, Texas, refinery to normal operations after a brief electrical power interruption on Friday, people familiar with plant operations said.
The power blip knocked the 200,000-bpd VPS-4 CDU out of production shortly before 12 p.m. CDT (1700 GMT) on Friday, triggering the plant's safety flare, said the two sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
